Since the 19th Century, industrial production has massively affected the environment, because its transformations only go in one direction. These unsustainable processes have generated tremendous amounts of waste, which are a great burden on our planet.
We need to come up with new chemical reactions to reverse thisprocess in a sustainable way. Living organisms could carry them out, but how can we include new-to–naturereactions into the genome of living beings?
We will use stress conditions and chemo-robots to help microorganisms incorporate into their DNA the ability to perform these chemical transformations. This will allow them to turn industrial waste into a resource, closing the cycle of production.
